Meghan Michaels was born and raised in New Hampshire, where she started riding as soon as she could walk. She was truly addicted, spending every second she could in the saddle (or bareback). She started in Pony Club and then, at the age of 9, began competing on the Arabian circuit at the national level, showing several horses—including stallions. It was on the Arabian circuit in Massachusetts where she met Lendon Gray and received her first lesson on Lendon’s famous Seldom Seen. This was the moment when Meghan’s desire to dance with horses began.
Meghan went to the University of New Hampshire, where she studied Animal Science and worked at a dressage farm. Here she was able to participate in clinics with Karl Mikolka and Jean Luc Cornille, learning classical dressage. On Karl Mikolka’s recommendation, Meghan attended the International Academy for Equestrian Studies, in Warendorf, Germany. Jill Hassler Scoop also guided Meghan toward this program.
Upon returning from Germany, Meghan became a working student for Lendon Gray and then went to Wellington, Florida where she has been spent several seasons competing. Since 2002, Meghan had been based in Montgomery County, in Maryland, where she has trained with Alex Chterba, the former Russian Olympic coach. Under his tutelage, she has successfully trained horses to the Grand Prix level. Meghan is now based out of jupiter FL year round. Meghan has trained several horses from backing them to competing FEI.
Meghan has had several championship placings in the BLMs and GAIGs, and has earned her way to the USDF Dressage Finals in Lexington, Kentucky in 2013, placing eighth in the fourth-level freestyle. She has also placed in several year end awards as well as her students and their horses. She has helped several achieve earning their USDF medals. She has also ridden in clinics with Linda Zang, Manolo Mendez, and Jean Luc Cornille. Meghan is currently located in Jupiter Farms, FL.
